The research mission of the James Kirk Bernard Foundation is to identify the catalysts that lead to suicide attempts and to understand how they operate biologically to interact with at-risk individuals. The goal is to stop preventable suicides by blocking exposure to catalysts that may be inappropriate for these individuals.

In 2013, the James Kirk Bernard Foundation will convene a think tank of scientists to look at factors that may increase the risk for suicide which have not traditionally been a priority for scientific investigation. This important meeting that will provide a road map for future scientific endeavors.
