Pencils, Pens, and Birthdays

Today marks what would have been Jamie Bernard’s 33rd birthday. It has been 10 years since he left us.

Recently we came across this article about the allure of pencils highlighting a book titled Pencils You Should Know, and it sparked thoughts about Jamie.

Colored pencils were one of Jamie’s preferred mediums, as depicted on this page in some of his drawings. And clearly Jamie had a unique relationship with writing utensils, as described in his high school writing assignment, A Day In the Life of My Pen, shared here for the first time.

JKBF has created greeting cards with two of Jamie’s colored pencil drawings. In addition to continuing to circulate his art in the world, the cards help to inform others of the work of the foundation to prevent suicide and preserve creative legacies on POBA.org.

Jamie’s life was short, but with your help, his legacy can endure, helping to reduce suffering and suicide and ensure that art lives. In honor of Jamie’s birthday, donors of $25 or more will receive a set of these cards.
